Lament

Duration: 5 hours
Location: Uppsala Cathedral, Uppsala, Sweden, 2010
Photo: Rakini Devi, Vlasta Delimar, Boris Nieslony

They sat in front of the Cathedral. After half an hour they started pealing onions. During the five hours of the performance their fluids , tears and saliva, were collected in the middle  in a transparent reservoir. After the fifth hour, they disconnected their masks and left the place, taking the reservoir with the content with them.

The next day, they brought the content to the Cathedral and mixed it with the holy water.*

“I sat on the chair and took my time to meet again with Marina. The repetitive action in the beginning became later a contemplation. It was a natural known, but yet to be discovered manner for connecting our beings. When the audience came and became a part of us, my energy changed drastically. Their presence touched me and I became sad in a very natural way.”

*In the original proposal, they asked for permission from the Friction Festival and Uppsala Cathedral to alter the holy water from the church with their own ‘holy-water’, but this was rejected. The next day they did that last part of the performance without the official authorization.
